Forget roses that wilt, and chocolates that scupper the New Year’s resolution diet this Valentine’s Day. Surprise the one you adore by adopting a stag beetle or perhaps something cuter!

Finding a thoughtful and inspired gift for that special person on Valentine’s Day can be a challenge – but a Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust ‘Adopt a Species’ pack might just be the answer you’re looking for.

such an unusual and lovely gift

With six locally threatened species to choose from, and starting at just £10, there’s bound to be one that will strike a chord with your loved one. Adopt a dormouse for adorable girls, a stag beetle for beastly boys, an otter for that playful partner of yours, a water vole for someone shy or a brown hare for those that are losing theirs!

“I’ll be adopting a barn owl for my favourite man this Valentine’s Day, it’s such an unusual and lovely gift to give, and what a fun way to support my local conservation charity.”, says Cein Bell, Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust member from Stroud.

Foster parents will be sent a pack containing everything they need to find out more about their adopted species. Inside is an adoption certificate, fact sheet, photograph, colouring sheets, and a cut out and make ‘pop up’ model of their chosen species.

All six species are under threat in Gloucestershire and have been identified as priority species’ in the Gloucestershire Biodiversity Action Plan. This ‘Adopt a Species’ scheme raises much needed funds in order for Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust to continue to protect habitats for these iconic, native animals through conservation work on its nature reserves and by offering advice to landowners and the public.

Adopt a Species for Valentine’s Day, or for any other occasion, or call 01452 383333, order by noon 13th February to ensure your gift arrives by 14th February.
