  • HAVE YOU SEEN A FLYING ANT YET?

    Each summer flying ants erupt from the ground seemingly without warning, and often simultaneously over large parts of the country. This year we are supporting The Society of Biology in their flying ant survey to discover more about this phenomenon. They are asking everyone who sees flying ants this summer to report their sightings.

  • NATURE NUTS BATTLE IT OUT!

    The battle between over 100 schools came to a nail-biting end at Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust’s Primary Schools Nature Quiz on Wednesday, 4th July. Longney C of E Primary School managed to clinch the coveted title of Wildlife Quiz Champions 2012 in the last round, winning by just one point!

  • FORESTRY PANEL REPORT: GOVERNMENT MUST COMMIT TO NATURE IN THE PUBLIC FOREST ESTATE

  • RARE BUTTERFLY RETURNS

    On Monday 13th June a large blue butterfly was spotted in flight at Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust’s Daneway Banks nature reserve for the first time this year. These beautiful and very rare butterflies were reintroduced to the nature reserve in 2002, after being extinct in the county since the 1960’s. The reintroduction is part of the Centre for Ecology and Hydrology’s (CEH) Large Blue Project which is overseen by Dave Simcox.

  • BLOOMIN’ BRILLIANT VERGE

    Shurdington Road verge

    Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust has asked local residents to help protect a wild flower rich roadside verge in Cheltenham. A group called ‘Friends of Shurdington Road Verge’ has been created to look after a length of species rich grassland alongside the road between Silverthorn Close and Kenelm Gardens.
