This ancient semi natural woodland is tucked away in a steep-sided valley and features towering beech trees. Coppiced hazel trees can also be found here, intermingled with box, making it a perfect habitat for the elusive dormouse. In spring there are masses of flowers including wood anemones, blue bells and ramsons (wild garlic) and in summer keep your eyes peeled for yellow bird’s nest orchids among the beech trees, and for common spotted orchids and early purple orchids in the glade.

There is also a small block of oak trees and an old orchard. Listen out for great spotted woodpeckers and tawny owls. Nuthatches and tree creepers can be seen scaling the trees.

There are several babbling limestone streams running down to an area of wet ground (formally a pond), with Carr Woodland at the bottom of the valley.
