Wild Trainees

Chainsaw training

(GWT) Andrew, Ella, Amy and Jess receiving chainsaw training from Marcus.

Many passionate and talented young people want to pursue a career in conservation but lack the skills or experience. The Wild Trainee programme enables young people gain the essential skills and experience required to take that first step into a career in the conservation sector.

Wild Trainees have been so far been based in our Land Management team, with the largest part of their time spent undertaking practical tasks out on the nature reserves across the county. In 2022, we opened up the scheme to offer Traineeships in the Communications & Supporter Development, Evidence and Engagement & Learning teams.

I wanted to thank everyone at GWT for their guidance on the traineeship. I definitely wouldn’t have been offered my current job opportunity if I hadn’t been a Wild Trainee.

Their role is an important one - to assist in delivering nature’s recovery! Be it through through practical work to create bigger, better and more connected landscapes, engaging with people through workshops, publications and online, or to help guide our work using ecological evidence.
