We’ve set ourselves an ambitious mission…

Mission Wild Logo

Over the last 50 years, Gloucestershire’s woodlands, rivers, and grasslands have declined at an alarming rate, taking with it wildlife and our sense of connection to the natural world. A connection our survival depends on.

But this story is not over. We have shown that when we give nature a chance, it responds. From the return of the pine marten to the world-leading recovery of the large blue butterfly, we are already helping to revive the wild.

Nature can bounce back!

We have shown that when we give nature a chance, it responds. From the return of the pine marten to the world-leading recovery of the large blue butterfly, we are already helping to revive the wild.

Now we are on a mission to give Gloucestershire’s nature the chance it needs. But time is running out. The message from experts from around the world is clear - nature needs us to act now, to act together, and to work at scale.

That’s why we aim to raise an ambitious £3 million in three years to accelerate nature’s recovery in three critical ways...

NATURE RECOVERY ZONES (NRZs)

Mission Wild is built around eleven Nature Recovery Zones. These are large areas where evidence shows that we can bring nature back at scale. Collectively, our NRZ’s cover a space eleven times the size of Gloucester!

These zones, shown in the map below, go beyond the bounds of our nature reserves and are about creating bigger, better and connected spaces for wildlife, people and the climate.

These special areas can weave wildlife corridors through the places we live, farm, rest and work, allowing nature to thrive and expand across the county.
