Nextdoor Nature

A father and daughter sit on a bench in a community garden, with a tree and bushes around them. The words 'Nextdoor Nature' appear overlaid

Nextdoor Nature is a two-year project that is reaching out to anyone that would like to feel more connected to nature, and helping to create nature-filled spaces around where they live and work!

Thanks to £5 million funding from The National Lottery Heritage Fund, the project will provide people with the advice and support they need to help nature on their doorstep, and leave a lasting natural legacy in honour of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

During lockdown, many of us discovered just how much peace nature can provide and how important it is. Whether that be sitting down on the grass for a few minutes to calm the mind, or a walk through the woods for an adventure or to keep fit.

Each one of us can make a difference to bring back nature and tackle climate change, by taking small actions that add up to big changes, but some of us just need a little bit of help to get started which is where Nextdoor Nature comes in.

Nextdoor Nature will be encouraging communities, including minority communities and people with disabilities, to get involved with transformational micro-projects to help nature thrive and make the places where they live, work and visit greener - so that everyone can benefit.

So, whether there’s a dull, barren patch of land that could be colourful and buzzing again, or a space that could be a wild but safe area to visit or play in – the Nextdoor Nature projects will help everyone to take action for nature.

We can achieve incredible things when we work together. Nature cares for us, let's care for it back!
