Ho Ho Ho it's a message from Father Christmas himself!

"By the time you read this, I'll have my feet up and enjoying a little tipple in front of my roaring fire and reminiscing about the past year that's just flown by!

2015 has been an interesting year of wildlife highs and lows, and in the last few weeks I've been alarmed by the following reports of 40 year low for the UK's butterflies and the UK's wildlife becoming increasingly fragile.

Here in Gloucestershire, I've been delighted to see Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust's work on the Cotswold Rivers proving that water voles, brown trout and kingfishers have benefitted, a new luxury wetland habitat for birds has been created in the Severn Vale and a grant of £50,000 was awarded for a new pond creation project. It's a real pleasure to the changes in the landscape year after year as I journey across the county.

In the Autumn the Trust launched a new hedgehog campaign and appealed for sightings and non-sightings and received an unprecendented 850 records in just a few weeks! That's an amazing achievement, it'll do no end of good for the little critters. They're one of my wifes favourite animals, next to the Reindeers of course, so it's wonderful to see so many people willing to help keep them safe!

I want to say a huge thank you to all of you in Gloucestershire for supporting the work of the Wildlife Trust and ask you all to continue to support their work in 2016 as they continue to grow and conserve the county's wonderful wildlife!

I wish you all a very Merry Christmas"
