Friday 17th February 2012
Amateaur athletes raised £2,500 for Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust at Stroud's 30th half marathon last year
Whether you’re training for the Olympics, enjoy a mid-week jog, find yourself running for the bus more often than not or just want to get fit – Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust is urgently seeking people of all abilities to dig out their trainers and get ‘Running for Wildlife’.
Instead of giving something up this lent, why not take something up – running!
Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust hopes to raise £4,000 to buy pond dipping kits, bug pots and wildlife identification guides to assist with their Community Education Programme, and needs individuals or groups to help by taking the ‘Running for Wildlife’ challenge during 2012.
Jan Ryder, Fundraising Officer at Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust said: “We urgently need people of all ages and abilities to run for wildlife. Instead of giving something up this lent, why not take something up – running!”
Last October, over £2,500 was raised for the Trust by amateur athletes at Stroud’s 30th half marathon. Since this race, local runner Amanda Langley has been inspired to run 100 miles by the end of 2012 to raise much needed funds for her local conservation charity.
I’ve challenged myself to take part in races throughout Gloucestershire to reach my goal of 100 miles by the end of the year
Amanda, a Trust member and Managing Partner at Phoenix Legal Group said: “The Stroud half marathon was a real challenge for me, but it seems to have given me the bug! I’ve challenged myself to take part in races throughout Gloucestershire to reach my goal of 100 miles by the end of the year, and I can’t wait!”
Local races you can take part in include the Forest of Dean half marathon on 1st April 2012; Tewkesbury half marathon or 5-mile fun run on 20th May 2012; Trailblazer Forest of Dean 10k on 26th May 2012; Cheltenham Circular Challenge on 24th June 2012. Cheltenham and Stroud half marathon dates are still to be confirmed.
In agreeing to raise a minimum sponsorship for the Trust, you will receive free registration, training plans and a personalised running vest.
