Lancaut lies in one of the four most important woodland areas in Britain, the site is very rich in wildlife with over 350 plant species recorded and a wide range of birds around the wood and south facing cliffs such as peregrine falcon and raven. Cormorant and heron frequent the river, and occasionally a seal will pop up in the river on a spring tide. A great place with stunning iconic views from the cliffs.

Lancaut's south-facing cliffs are regular nesting sites for peregrine falcons and ravens. Rare whitebeqams also share the cliff edges with hunting kestrel, sparrow hawk and goshawk. Cormorant and heron frequent the river, and its banks, along with an occasional seal on the spring tides. The steep slopes and historic quarrying of limestone for agriculture and construction, such as the Avonmouth Docks, have resulted in a diverse woodland maintaining wild service tree, small-leaved lime, and wayfaring tree amongst the yew, beech, oak, ash and cherry.
