Lancaut is within the Lower Wye Gorge which is one of the finest landscapes in lowland Britain.
Lancaut lies in one of the four most important woodland areas in Britain and is an SSSI, the site is very rich in wildlife with over 350 plant species recorded and a wide range of birds around the wood and south facing cliffs such as peregrine falcon and raven.
