Every child’s life is better when it’s a little bit wild! Join us to get creative ideas for engaging families with nature and learn about the importance of wild play. After a short session on theory, planning, risk and benefits, most of your day will be spent getting hands on (playing!) and becoming confident leading outdoor games and activities.

This outdoor course will help you develop your own sense of adventure and become a trusted guide for families getting outdoors. Learn about physical and creative challenges for young children, activities to promote communication, cooperation, independence and imagination, and how to adapt to different audiences on this fun packed course.

Course expectations
By the end of the course you will feel confident in planning and leading a variety of outdoor children’s activities for families and small groups.

Over the day the course will cover:
• How to plan and lead outdoor activities
• Managing risks, challenges and benefits of wild play
• Creative outdoor games and activities for under 12’s
• Wildlife activities for small groups and events
• Encouraging child-led and imaginative outdoor play
• How to engage parents too!
• Adapting activities for families with additional needs
• Staying comfortable whatever the weather
• Impacts on nature and how to minimise them

About the Tutor
Rosie has over 20 years’ experience in wildlife conservation, and her creativity and irrepressible sense of fun is backed by extensive knowledge of engaging children in the outdoors in both formal and informal settings. Rosie is a Forest School Leader Level 3, and holds an Outdoor Play Practitioner Award as well as spending years devising outdoor activities as a Guide and Beaver Scout Leader.

11.15 : Groups: Games and activities and getting involved

15.30 : Discussion and review of the day

What to Bring
Essential:
• Weather appropriate outdoor clothing (we advise clothing to cover arms, legs and feet).

Parking and Transport
You will be sent a free parking permit for Crickley Hill on booking. Please park in the Coach park and print and display it in your windscreen.

Accessibility and Health
If you have relevant medical or access requirements please let us know when booking.
The teaching area at Crickley Hill has level access, but involves gates and natural surfaces. The cafe also has level access.

About the Field Site
Crickley Hill is situated on the edge of the Cotswolds above Cheltenham and is owned and managed by Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust.
