Started in 2007, the main aim of this project was to reconnect the existing isolated water vole populations of the Berkeley Vale

The project's aim was also to encourage re-population of other historic sites within the project area.

Water voles have disappeared from whole river systems across the county and the species now only survives in remnant key population areas.

One such area is the Berkeley Vale encompassing the River Cam and Little Avon River catchment areas.

The project has been a great success and, despite a discontinuance in direct funding (in 2010), is on-going and managed as a subsidiary of our Cotswold Rivers Living Landscape Programme.
