A walk round Hempsted Landfill
About the event
Hempsted Walk – From Landfill to Landscape
Sunday 13th July at 10:15am
Meeting point: The Old Farmhouse, Llanthony Priory, The Docks, Gloucester (///laws.vine.chimp on what3words)
It’s a lot more interesting than it sounds! After 50 years of receiving waste, Hempsted Landfill is now closed and capped. The route will take us along the River Severn, past the former landfill—now resembling an ordinary hill—and through the village of Hempsted.
Your guide, Meyrick, is working with the landfill company on the site’s restoration and will share insights into the process. He also has local knowledge of Hempsted and the surrounding landscape.
Distance: 7 km / 4.5 miles
Terrain: Generally flat with one steep slope, mostly cut grass and pasture. The ground may be uneven, so please wear appropriate footwear. Livestock may be present.
We want to keep these walks free. If you can no longer attend, please cancel as soon as possible so someone else can take your place. Many thanks!
