Watch Gloucestershire's wildlife in action!

Otters, pine martens, peregrines, badgers...and more!

Spy into the lives of Gloucestershire's amazing wildlife thanks to our trusty camera traps and a brand new peregrine falcon nest box camera, courtesy of the Cirencester Wildlife Group.

Camera traps are a fantastic monitoring tool that confirm the presence of species and allow both diurnal and nocturnal behaviours to be recorded.

Camera traps are a fantastic monitoring tool that confirm the presence of species and allow both diurnal and nocturnal behaviours to be recorded. Several of our projects focus on improving river habitats and one useful tool we have deployed are monitoring rafts that float on the edge of the river. Inside the wooden tunnel is a clay pad, on which inquisitive animals will walk over and leave behind their tracks.

However, not all riparian wildlife (species that live closer to river banks) that visit the monitoring raft enter the tunnel and walk over the clay basket. If there are no field signs left behind then we are unable to identify all the species that have visited the raft. Camera traps improve the effectiveness of species monitoring and are a sensitive method of surveying a range of species.
