Three Groves Wood

Three Groves Wood is part of a large block of ancient woodland on the north side of the Frome Valley. Dominated by beech, the woodland borders Strawberry Banks nature reserve.

In spring the woodland floor has a fine show of bluebells. There is an excellent invertebrate fauna which includes Ena Montana and Zenobiella subrufescens, molluscs restricted to ancient woodland. Silver-washed Fritillary and gatekeeper butterflies may be seen. Nuthatch, spotted flycatcher and green woodpecker are amongst a typical woodland bird life.

Three Groves Wood is part of the Golden Valley Wildlife Way, which includes Strawberry Banks, Daneway Banks and Siccaridge Wood nature reserves.
