Work experience is a great opportunity for young people to learn about a particular job or an area of work, and a week with Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust is a great way to develop skills while learning more about wildlife.

We offer challenging and enjoyable work experience placements for year 10 students. Each week includes the opportunity to experience working with a variety of the teams, from Land Management to Communications. It's an chance to learn about working life, get hands-on experience in a potential career path and identify skills and passions.

Each year, students get involved in land management across the county, delivering sessions with the learning team, supporting the membership team, maintaining wildlife gardens, learning skills like practical wildlife identification and reserve condition monitoring, creating social media content and more. Discover how to build a bird box with Barry and Katie, a wildlife pond with Kiana and Alfie and explore the meadows of Robinswood Hill.

At present our work experience programme is only open to young people in year 10.

This experience has been extremely valuable and helped me to understand and learn about the different types of work that Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust do that have a positive impact on nature.
2022 participant from The Cotswold School
I thoroughly enjoyed my work experience (at Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust) and I also made friends with all the other peers also doing work experience with me.
2023 participant from Cirencester Deer Park School
The best part about my placement was finding being able to spend time both inside and outside! It was a really good experience I would recommend. The staff are really welcoming and friendly.
2024 participant from Sir Thomas Rich's School
It was great seeing the importance of all the different jobs, and that 'inside' jobs are just as important as 'outside' jobs to keep GWT running!
