Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust’s (GWT) wildlife photo competition returns for 2026, introducing a brand-new youth category and inviting photographers across the county to celebrate the wildlife on their doorstep.

Between April 1 and 31 July, people can submit wildlife photos taken in Gloucestershire. The competition is split into mobile and camera entries, with prizes given to the winners of each category. Entrants can submit up to three photos per category.

Categories include

  • Species Spotlight
  • Urban Wildlife
  • Wild Places
  • Wild Youth

This annual competition is entering its 17th year, after being launched in 2010, and previous winning photos have included a variety of wildlife, including a barn owl, grasshopper, wrens, wild garlic, wading birds, and insects like dragonflies.

Cerys Baker, Communications Officer at GWT says “Head to your local nature reserve, natural space, or out your front door, and capture the magic of your favourite space or species through your lens.”

“Spring is a fantastic time to be celebrating wildlife, and we’re looking for entries that capture how special our local area is for nature.”

Winning photographs will be selected by a panel of judges. Entry into the competition is free and lucky finalists will also have the chance to see their photographs on display at GWT’s exhibition between 22 and 30 August 2026.

All images need to be taken in Gloucestershire after 1 August 2025, and photographers must follow wildlife photography best practices, being mindful of flash and sticking to footpaths. Remember, the welfare of the wildlife should come first.
